4 Solo Travel Essentials (+ 1 Bonus Confidence Must-Have!)

I took my first ever solo travel trip to Thailand this past month, and I couldn’t recommend a better place for a first time solo traveler looking for a spiritual experience. Traveling solo is an empowering and unforgettable adventure, but it requires thoughtful preparation. Packing the right essentials can make your journey safer, more comfortable, and less stressful. Whether you’re planning your first solo trip or you’re a seasoned explorer, here are my four solo travel essentials from Amazon that every solo traveler should carry, in no particular order.

1. Portable Charger (Power Bank) 🔋

When you’re traveling alone, your phone becomes your lifeline for maps, booking confirmations, translations, and staying in touch. This is especially true when you’re in a whole different country, and it’s very likely that you’ll be using your phone frequently. A reliable portable charger ensures you never face the stress of a dead battery when you need it most. This portable charger I used was lightweight, had great battery life, and I liked that it had two USB-C ports so I could charge my iPhone and headphones at the same time.

2. Kindle Paperwhite E-Reader 📖

I love reading while traveling since the long travel times are when I get the most reading in. At the time, I was currently reading “A Little Life”, which is a 700 page book, and there was no way that carrying a book of this size around was practical. A Kindle solves this problem by storing thousands of books in one slim device. I can wholeheartedly say that investing in a Kindle was one of the best decisions of my life. The battery life is amazing with weeks of continuous use and adjustable lighting for day or night reading. I love that I can also adjust the font size, highlight text, and look up a word definition right then and there! I took my Kindle everywhere, for the 10+ hours of flight time, long bus rides to tours, and to restaurants to keep me company as I dined alone.

3. Flushable Portable Wipes🧻

After some research, I noticed that a lot of travelers noted that many public bathrooms in Thailand would not readily have toilet paper. And even then, using a toilet paper roll that’s been sitting in a public bathroom made me feel a bit icky. Flushable wipes are a game-changer as they can help with keeping you fresh on long journeys, overnight buses, or days when a shower isn’t immediately available. These are 99.5% water and aloe and are safe for sensitive skin, hypoallergenic, and unscented. So I felt safe using these on my acne prone skin to wipe off sweat and dirt after long travel days as well. I also loved the small cute packaging these came in.

4. Fillable Neck Pillow 😴

I was actually gifted this by a friend who had recommended it to me for trips and I’m so glad she did. This neck pillow is hollow and can be used to store any clothes that may be taking up space in your luggage, leaving more room for souvenirs (and a few extra 7-Eleven snacks). This fillable neck pillow is lightweight, packable, and adjustable for maximum comfort. I also loved how this one comes with a big roomy hood that covers my entire face to hide my open drooling mouth while I fought jet lag. I will definitely be taking this item on all of my future trips.

Bonus Essential: Siren Spell Pheromone Perfume 🌺

While it’s not a traditional “travel essential,” one item I loved having with me was my Siren Spell pheromone perfume. Solo travel is just as much about mindset as it is about gear, and pheromones are great for boosting your own mood and sending out chemical signals that can make you feel more attractive, confident, and approachable. For me, wearing Siren Spell perfume wasn’t just about smelling good, it was about carrying a little boost of self-assurance wherever I went. It gave me the confidence to walk into a restaurant solo, strike up conversations, and feel my best even in a brand new country. Sometimes the smallest comforts have the biggest impact, and this was one of mine. The 10ml bottle is the perfect travel size as well.

Final Thoughts 🌟

Solo travel has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, and Thailand was the perfect first destination to take that leap. While the adventure is unforgettable, having the right gear makes it so much easier to feel comfortable and confident on the road.
For me, these four items were absolute game-changers. They may seem simple, but they kept me connected, entertained, refreshed, and well-rested throughout my trip.
If you’re planning your first solo trip (or even your tenth!), I can’t recommend these solo travel essentials from Amazon enough. Packing smart helps you stress less and focus more on enjoying the freedom and excitement that solo adventures bring.
So whether you’re hopping on your first long-haul flight or just curious about what to pack, these small but mighty items deserve a spot in your bag. ✈️
